Damn Snow!
By Sean Philips • Feb 8th, 2010 • Category: ModBlogWell thanks to the DC area snowstorm, we got somewhere around 32″ of snow, which is enough to stop everything in my region of the country. So if you guys were wondering why there was only one Modblog update Friday, or why there was no BME Girls Calendar entry, the fact the snowstorm killed my intranet at home is why.
I am back at work today, using the internet here, but most likely I will be snowed in (and possibly with out internet) tomorrow and the next few days, as we are expecting another foot or so of snow to pile on.
Anyhow, I searched BME high and low for a submission that could possibly sum up how I feel about the snow and the impact it has had on my life recently. I think I found it, this tattoo may not be amazing, and normally I would probably overlook it for posting to Modblog, but today it just speaks to me.

Another snowman tattoo that speaks to me was already posted, but in case you missed it, or weren’t a reader in 2007, check it out!
Don’t fret Modbloggers, I will be back with a few more post today, including the BME Girls Calendar entry. Hopefully, even if I am stuck at home, my intranet should be working and I can continue posting. If not, I will see you guys when it warms up, maybe around April?
Dead Virgins Don’t Sing
By Sean Philips • Feb 1st, 2010 • Category: ModBlogHere is another cool piece by Lila Way of True Grit Tattoos in Burlington, ON. This may not be as much of a dumb idea as her boyfriends tattoo, but I really dig this Day of the Dead style Virgin Mary.

Just an outline, but still impressive.
By Sean Philips • Jan 29th, 2010 • Category: ModBlogI am not big on posting tattoos in progress, but this tattoo is just too bad ass not to post. Also, I am hoping if the wearer or the artist, Jesse Estrada, sees this posted, maybe they will submit some more pictures when it is finished.

You know what else is cool? That ear lobe tattoo. I am sure this guy wasn’t the first person to tattoo a stretched lobe like that, but he is the first I have seen and I love the way it looks!
Biomech is the new black
By Sean Philips • Jan 26th, 2010 • Category: ModBlogWhen I first started hearing the word “biomechanical” in reference to tattooing it almost always referred to H.R. Giger’s art, or work done in a similar fashion. As the years passed biomech started to become more organic and colorful thanks to the influence of tattooist like Guy Aitchison.
As much as I like the colorful stuff, I definitely have a sweet spot for the Giger-ish pieces and I was pretty blown away by this back piece by Adam Collins from Lal Hardy’s Tattoo in London.

Couples working together
By Sean Philips • Jan 22nd, 2010 • Category: ModBlogLike Phil and his girlfriend Alie, they came to the agreement that if he ran every day she would draw every day. To see Alie’s commitment to drawing every day check out her blog, I Hate To Draw. To see Phil’s commitment to running, you will need to stalk the street’s of Toronto one morning and look for Phil yourself (feel free to snap pictures and email them to me).
Another, and equally effective, way for a couple to work together is with a ball gag. One person speaks, the other submits. Makes perfect sense to me.
This tattoo by Alie sums it up best with the Latin phrase in the banner that translates to “Silence Implies Consent”.

For a few other pictures of Alie’s work, as well as contact info for her keep on keeping on.
Nothing says scratcher….
By Sean Philips • Jan 21st, 2010 • Category: ModBlog..like a crappy tattoo of a tattoo machine.
So if you are or ever plan on being a tattooer and you also plan on getting a tattoo of a tattoo machine, make damn sure it is a good one like this one by Randy Polillo of Dynasty Tattoo in Newfield, NJ.

She’s a pinball wizard.
By Sean Philips • Jan 20th, 2010 • Category: ModBlogShe’s a pinball wizzard.
There’s got to be a twist .
A pinball wizard.
She’s got such a supple wrist.
The preceding Who lyrics have been changed to reflect her femininity.

When worlds collide
By Sean Philips • Jan 18th, 2010 • Category: ModBlogDuring my year long stint living in Las Vegas I met Cheyne. Of all the tattooed people I have met over the years, he has has one of the more interesting tattoo. His torso is an amazing Japanese style body suit, and his extremities are a collection of randomness, including lots of pop culture tributes. Of his pop culture tattoos, my favorite is this Harry Potter portrait by our mutual friend Mike Demasi.

To see more of Cheyne’s work, including several pieces most teenage girls would be proud to have, keep on keeping on.
