Enter the Dragon

By Rob • Jun 15th, 2011 • Category: ModBlog

Today is going to be a good day ModBlog readers.  I’ve got some great stuff lined up you’re sure to love.  Let’s kick off today with an incredible greyscale dragon by Nail, who hails from Hungary.

Hey, it really is a racing snail!

By Rob • Jun 9th, 2011 • Category: ModBlog

I know this is probably from something else, but all I see when I look at this tattoo is the racing snail from The Neverending Story.

The Eternal Struggle

By Rob • Jun 6th, 2011 • Category: ModBlog

It is the end of days.  The fate of the world hangs in the balance between the forces of good and evil.  The champions have been chosen.   Two young boys, innocent prior to being selected, have been imbued with untold powers.  When the battle is over, only one shall remain, the victor claiming the fate of the world for his own, the other, dead, and with him all of the power that was given to him.

With the defeat of their champion the losing side will forever be vanquished, never to return, leaving the world forever in the grips of good or evil.  Who do you think will win?

Roger from Star City Tattoos in Roanoke, VA was the artist chosen by both sides to create these images of the boys immediately before the battle.

I put on my robe and wizard hat

By Rob • May 30th, 2011 • Category: ModBlog

As Jen pointed out last week, I may be considered something of a nerd.  Well it turns out I must not be much of one as I had no clue what this tattoo was of until I did a search for the word “Modron“.  I’m sure there are a couple of Dungeons and Dragons players out there that could explain these things in greater detail, and I’d imagine kmg454 would be one of them, seeing as how this is his tattoo.

This is based off a drawing by Christian Spalthoff and can be found in the Fantasy Tattoo gallery.

Together

By Rob • May 17th, 2011 • Category: ModBlog

Here’s the other photo I mentioned earlier that was sent in by FemaleHumanoid.  The focus here is not just on the couple, but also their tattoos.  In fact I’d hazard a guess that the point of the photo is to showcase the work, that just happens to be on these two individuals.  As with the earlier post, you’ll definitely want to go to the gallery to see the full sized version of this photo so you can get a better look at the tattoos.

On broken wings

Don’t let the glare from the flash distract you from this autumn themed chest piece sent in by ChorusOfAngels.

Ecstasy in Grey

By Rob • Apr 12th, 2011 • Category: ModBlog

I got a message a couple days ago from Allen telling me to check out the work of Dallas artist Mike Tidwell from Hold Fast Tattoo.  What caught Allen’s eye was this piece, a greyscale replica of Alex Grey’s “Ecstasy”.

Given how intricate Alex Grey’s art is, Mike should be commended for such an accurate recreation.  Let’s hope we see more from him in the future.

Calling all Python Programmers!

By Rob • Apr 11th, 2011 • Category: ModBlog

With all the responses we got with our last job posting, we’ve stated to make great strides towards getting the BME World Tour videos from Japan translated.  We’ve got enough translators now, but we are still looking for someone to fill the position of Lead Programmer for BME.

BME has spent the last 3 years redeveloping its web presence from the ground up. Throughout the process there have been a lot of detours as well as the predictable bumps in the road. BME is looking for a lead programmer to integrate with our development group that has helped to program the new site. You will work with our current company to learn the new site as well as to help finish the deployment of all of BME’s 2.0 rebirth. After the development company has been phased out, you will be responsible for maintenance and changes to the existing site and software. You will also be responsible for programming new features, debugging and developing/programming new sites that will come with BME’s growth. As BME doesn’t have a “main office”, all of our staff work from home. This is a big bonus for most of us and has worked well over the past decade.

Requirements:

  • Diligence and attention to detail.
  • Multi year senior level programming experience in python (as well as C/C++).
  • Core competencies in Python.
  • Excellent HTML/CSS/JS skills and an interest and awareness of emerging web standards.
  • Superb problem solving skills.
  • Good knowledge of SQL
  • Expected to maintain, enhance and install our custom application stack.
  • Expected to be able to manage the whole life cycle of product development including public facing and deployment.
  • Experience with linux based web architectures.
  • Experience in Java and .NET an advantage.
  • Experience of deploying and maintaing websites with Apache, Linux, and either Postgres or MySQL, and development with frameworks such as Django.
  • A real appreciation of clean, well-tested, well-documented code.

Useful Experience:

  • SQL database management
  • Database administration
  • Linux administration

Benefits:

  • Working in a mod friendly and positive environment.
  • Working in a small private company with international reputation in the Body Modification Community.
  • Exposure to some of the most exciting aspects of the industry.
  • You can work from home! This can be a part time job for extra income while you maintain a full time job as unfortunately, BME isn’t in a position to offer health care, 401k or other retirement benefits.
  • You won’t have to come into BME HQ but you will have a ticket to attend BME’s main events (BMEfest/ModProm etc)!
Please send your resume, availability and salary requirements to rachel@BME.com with the subject line “Python Position Applicant”.

Of course a post wouldn’t be complete without an unrelated image, so here’s CajunKourt’s recreation of Giger’s “Pisces”.

Ghostly Geisha

This interesting little piece was sent in by Joey Pang of Tattoo Temple in Hong Kong.  It’s no secret how much I love her work, and this piece is just another example of how awesome she is.

You can check out the full sized version of this photo in the oriental style tattoo gallery.

Fairy Clear

By Rob • Feb 17th, 2011 • Category: ModBlog

The use of negative space in a tattoo isn’t a new technique by any means.  This fairy tattoo by Joey Pang is just an example of how a skilled artist can use that negative space to create a beautiful image.  At first glance the fairy seems to be just a head, wings, and a squiggly line.  Yet when you look at the negative space, your mind takes these pieces, combines them with the negative space, and creates the full body of the fairy.  Joey is using the negative space in such a way that the viewer also becomes an artist in their mind, filling in the blank with an image unique to each viewer.

You can check out more of Joey’s recent work in the new skool tattoo gallery.
