From The Vault: The T-bar Piercing

By Sean Philips • Feb 2nd, 2010 • Category: ModBlog

The T-bar piercing was introduced to most of the piercing world by Tom Brazda,  a man who has always been on of the smartest and most innovative body piercers in the world. Since then several other piercers have experimented with and have had success with these as well. So how crazy is it that the most recent picture in the T-bar piercing gallery is from 2005? Sure for some piercings, you can get similar results with microdermals, like this one I posted not too long ago. However, it’s not the same, nor are the jewelry options.

The two most common body parts to get T-bar piercings have always been the nipple and the tongue. Yet, that type of jewelry and piercing could be used for so much more as well. Obviously, the T-bar tongue, could prove extremely detrimental to a persons teeth, but the nipple T-bar is still a cool, technical and different piercing that is just as viable today. There is also ear lobes, genitals and other body parts that could have a whole range of different variations on standard piercings using this type of jewelry.

So piercers of the world, get creative, I would love to see some new T-bar pictures added to this old gallery in 2010.

F You! This will heal!

By Sean Philips • Jan 29th, 2010 • Category: ModBlog

No, that wasn’t an actual quote from BlackVirus about his self done transfinger piercing, but it is certainly what this picture said to me.

finger2

This piercing was a fairly crude DIY piercing (pictures of the procedure on his IAM page) and the jewelry is definitely  longer than needed, plus there is a random o-ring on it which I can’t figure out,  yet here it is looking ok at 4 months old.

No piercings on the hand are a particularly good idea because of the use and abuse that a hand gets on a daily basis. However, transfinger piercings have a fairly remarkable chance of healing if the subject leads a fairly gentle life. Obviously, for the best chance of getting any piercing to heal, you should seek out an experienced piercer who uses proper jewelry and has an understanding of why something may or may not work out. Nonetheless, once in a while some “crazy kid” does a DIY piercing that shouldn’t last more than a week and yet for some reason it does.

We usually showcase the best in body piercing….

By Sean Philips • Jan 27th, 2010 • Category: ModBlog

….but once in a while we need to show the worst in body piercing as well.  This navel project is definitely amongst the worst piercings I have ever had the displeasure of gazing upon.

I am not going to out the shop credited for doing this, but I will give you a wee little hint, the name of the shop implies they probably sell  ”for tobacco use only” products as well.

If you can’t figure out why these piercings are so bad I suggest you jump off of  modblog, and go to askbme or the bme encyclopedia to start learning.

I have seen lots of things…

By Sean Philips • Jan 22nd, 2010 • Category: ModBlog

…and I have done lots of things that would make a normal person curl up in the fetal position and require years of institutionalizing.

So in the rare moments when I come across something that makes me cringe a bit, I feel obliged to share it with you guys.

Some of Alicja’s  performance acts she does with The Psycho Cyborgs definitely makes me wince a bit. I don’t know what it is about the “fingering of an open wound” but for some reason that does it for me every time.

For more pictures of her performances, her work and a music video with her and the Psycho Cyborgs, keep on keeping on.

Sad news

By Rachel • Nov 13th, 2009 • Category: ModBlog

This is probably “old news” at this point but Gino from Durban, South Africa sent in this scan of a newspaper article from their area. It’s utterly depressing that a father, who should love his child unconditionally, killed her over her secret tongue piercing.I don’t have more news than this but I thought that it was a relevant piece to share. I hope that he spends the rest of his life in jail. The death of a child over something as temporary as a tongue piercing is a depressing sign of what anger individuals can have pent up inside.

Mind The Gap

By Jordan Ginsberg • Oct 30th, 2009 • Category: ModBlog

Hoo boy that’s grisly, but fitting for this, the Halloween season, no? Shane checks in from scenic Columbus, Georgia, to show off this new Columbia Necktie tattoo by Matthew Wertjes at Superior Skin Art. The tongue is a nice touch, too—the tongue in the tattoo, that is, not the split tongue, although we’re sure that has a nice touch too…ladies.

More angles after the jump, including a painful-looking procedural shot.

The Final Mystery

By Jordan Ginsberg • Oct 30th, 2009 • Category: ModBlog

As is the case sometimes, these photos were submitted without a name, but, as is also the case sometimes, they were just too good to sit on until claimed. Because really, what better way to kick off your lunch hour than with this handsome (albeit anonymous) devil? Zero-gauge nostrils, 7/16-inch flats and 2.5-inch lobes, all looking healthy as can be, all attached to this virile young specimen? If that isn’t a Halloween miracle, we don’t know what is. More after the jump.

The Cushioned Chamber

By Jordan Ginsberg • Oct 28th, 2009 • Category: ModBlog

Well well well, if it isn’t Lauren and her stunning three-inch lobes making a most welcome appearance! And hey, if you’re interested in things like healthy-looking stretched ears, solid tattoo work, attractive women and the hot and punishing Phoenix sunshine, you’ll probably just want to take a look after the jump.

Don’t Masquerade

By Jordan Ginsberg • Oct 27th, 2009 • Category: ModBlog

The last time we saw Cole up there, he was showing off that handsome chest piece, and understandably so! This time around, however, his clothes have tragically disappeared somehow, though this calamity at least allows us a convenient vantage point of the cephalopodic addition to his side by Jay at Trigger Happy in Vancouver, British Columbia. After the jump, we get a better look at a few things that are mildly obscured in the above photo.

Forgo the Nightcap

By Jordan Ginsberg • Oct 27th, 2009 • Category: ModBlog

It was only a matter of time before every possible finger-related tattoo joke was used, and we don’t think we were alone in wondering what the next inky humor accessory would be. And now? Here is your answer, probably, featuring flash by Derik Snell for a tattoo by Adam at Hand of Glory in Brooklyn, New York. Oh and hey, just in time for old Halloween! Sweet serendipity, right?
