Pulling Free

By Rob • May 18th, 2012 • Category: ModBlog

Everything about this photo brings a smile to my face.  Especially knowing that this was IAM: Zmashd’s first pull ever (she’s on the right), makes it that much better.  On top of that, the pull, which was facilitated by IAM: Vegenero, lasted about 2 1/2 hours, and only stopped because Zmashd’s friend got tired.

Custom Cupcake

By Rob • May 18th, 2012 • Category: ModBlog

Joeltron and Kylie Garth from First Blood in Sydney finally finished a project they’ve been working on for a while, a complete microdermal cupcake (with sprinkles!).  Here’s what Joel has to say about it.

This awesome cupcake dermal anchor project was done over a number of sittings during the last few months. There are 33 in total and we did them in 8 sittings, around 2-3 weeks apart. Super stoked to FINALLY get a picture of them all changed and settled in! If you are wondering, the ‘sprinkle’ (rectangle) pieces were custom made by first cutting down a round disc and then anodizing them.

No Ordinary Blossom

By Rob • May 18th, 2012 • Category: ModBlog

One glace is all it’ll take for you to know where this tattoo came from, and I’m not talking about the red watermark in the top right corner.  Joey Pang’s style is all over this piece, with the branches created out of abstract brush strokes, and the flowers so lifelike you’d think they were real, or at the very least painted on with a calligraphy brush.

The Friday Follow-up

By Rob • May 18th, 2012 • Category: ModBlog

It’s been 3 months since we first saw this scar by Brian Decker.  Since then the scar is raising up nicely and the colouration is leaning towards a darker scar.  Of course over the next year or so things could change drastically, but I think it’s safe to assume this one will definitely stay raised.

Learning to Fly

By Rob • May 17th, 2012 • Category: ModBlog

There’s less than one week left to pre-order a copy of the Wings of Desire 10-year anniversary book “Learning to Fly”.  The pre-orders are important, as WoD is self-publishing.  This means that in order for the book to go to print they need 500 pre-orders.  Well with 5 days to go, they’re really close to that deadline.  They need less than 10o pre-orders in order to make this happen.  For those that don’t know, Wings of Desire are one of the world’s finest suspension teams.  Over the past 10 years they’ve accomplished incredible things, all of which are detailed in this book.

The book has been a long term project; planned since the very beginning of the Norwegian chapter in suspension history. Helene, our photographer, has been present since Håvve first came out as a Fakir in 1991 and has followed his work for more than two decades. As our official photographer, most of the body suspensions facilitated by Wings of Desire (WoD) can be found in her archives.

Helene’s photographs show more than the beauty of suspended bodies, they also capture the emotion of the moment. There are also a multitude of stories belonging to the people depicted. To give a slight impression of their various feelings and experiences, we have included selected quotes from people who have been suspended by Wings of Desire.

The foreword is written by Håvve’s first mentor, Allen Falkner. The history and philosophy behind WoD practice is put into words by the Norwegian suspension pioneer and creator of WoD, Håvve.

Instead of choosing a publisher, we have decided to publish this book ourselves. We know that we have the experience and ability to make this book a striking visual and emotional testimony—as well as an historical artifact of a decade’s worth of continuous improvement of equipment and technique. What we need is your help to make it happen!

To pre-order, simply visit http://www.ulule.com/wod/ and follow the instructions.  It’s a kickstarter-like website for authors who want to self-publish, and all proceeds from the book are going directly into the production costs.  So help make this book come to life.  Order yours today.

A quick follow-up

By Rob • May 17th, 2012 • Category: ModBlog

A few days ago I posted a pretty large back scarification.  At the time the photos were pretty poor quality.  So to make it up, here’s some much better photos of the scar by xronix.  Also, I indicated that the symbol is that of the caduceus.  However it is also the symbol for the kundalini, which holds particular meaning to the owner of the scar.

Hanging with Grace

By Rob • May 17th, 2012 • Category: ModBlog

A couple of weeks ago IAM:Waffle had the chance to suspend with Cere when he came down to visit him in New Jersey.  What resulted were some incredible photos taken by Stacey Ann Smith.

Read any good books lately?

By Rob • May 17th, 2012 • Category: ModBlog

I think it’s a safe bet that IAM: xdementia has, if only to celebrate his finished front piece by Stina Sardhina Wulfe from Grim North in Portsmith, NH.

And in case you were curious, the last one I read was “Ready Player One” by Ernest Cline.

Frog in your throat?

By Rob • May 17th, 2012 • Category: ModBlog

Ever get that feeling of a little tickle at the back of your throat?  Well, having your uvula pierced won’t give you that feeling, nor will it kick off your gag reflex.  It’s just a fun little piercing that is still pretty rare.
