Latest scars from Brian Decker

Brian Decker (purebodyarts.com) is currently guesting in Columbus, Ohio — and I should mention still has some spots left if you’d like work done — and doing his typically amazing work. Check out this intense example of geometric skin removal over blackwork… A piece that really makes me want to make an over-used and asinine comment about what a sore leg Jack is going to have!!! [Edit: I mean arm!]

Before Columbus Brian did some time in California, where he did a stylistically similar and equally impressive geometric skin removal, this mandala which at first glance I thought was centred by an Obama re-election logo (but then I came to my senses). I also wanted to showcase a beautiful anchor that he incised into Yvette’s back — a piece that is easy to predict will be beautiful healed, with both precise linework and detail, but at a scale that almost guarantees it will stay striking as it mellows with healing.

Happy birthday, Brian Decker!

It seems like just yesterday, Shawn was asking me if I had heard of “this Brian Decker guy in NY”. I hadn’t. Shawn told me Brian was some piercer getting into doing heavy mod work.  We both assumed that, like most all other, piercers getting into heavier mod work at the time, he had to be a hack. Needless to say he did a helluva job proving us both wrong and is now one of the biggest and most respected names in piercing/ body modification.

For his heavy mod work, his contributions to the evolution of body piercing, his work with ROP and his ability to survive off nothing more than pop tarts for extended periods of time he deserves a big fat Happy Birthday from myself, all the fine folks at BME as well as the modified community at large.

So happy freaking birthday, you delightfully bitter old fart!

Coming To Austin, Texas: Brian Decker!

If there are two things we enjoy above almost all else, they are cephalopod-related body modifications and warm corned beef sandwiches. If we were to add a third item, though, Brian Decker would probably make the list, seeing as he never fails to provide us with awe-inspiring tentacled monsters (though this one was mostly designed by the lovely Candace. In exchange for his contributions to the canon, we’ll pass on the word that Mr. Decker will be in Austin, Texas, at the end of this month, starting around October 20, and he is taking appointments! Visit him on IAM or at Pure Body Arts to set something up. Just do it already.

Double Decker!

Feast your peepers on this video Ari sent in (this is the last time I’ll apologise, but sorry about the music)..

First Brian punches then tapers Matt Skinner’s labret up to 00ga. Then Ari’s under the knife as Brian splits his tongue asunder.

Refining the ear pointing procedure

I’ve already talked a bit about new procedures that artists are developing to create both new stylistic options in ear pointing while also achieving more “realistic” or “natural” looking results. The latest procedure to be added to this world of fascinating options is one by Brian Decker. I asked him to describe it, and he explained,

“What I do is bisect each upper and lower section to eliminate the rebounding of the cartilage. Fold each section flat down and connect to the outer conch area. This is done with permanent internal sutures. The outer openings are then closed superficially with no tension. Because she’s from out of town, I used all dissolving sutures for the outer closing.”

Pictured below is the first set he’s done using this procedure, so he says there are adjustments he’ll make on the next one from what he’s learned by watching this one heal. In this group of pictures you can see the ear pointing right after it was done, then at about two and a half weeks in the middle picture, and finally at six weeks in the right picture. At six weeks it’s still healing to some extent, so expect the swelling to continue to reduce.

I should also mention that Brian is currently touring, and will be in Des Moines, Iowa from March 5th through the 11th, and then in Columbus, Ohio in mid-April, as well as London, UK in early May (including at the First International Scarification Convention), and then in Las Vegas in mid June. Get in touch with him via his website at purebodyarts.com.

Decapitated Monroe Scarification

Another characteristically precise scarification by Brian Decker (purebodyarts.com) — an image that I’ve seen tattooed regularly but never scarred — a Decapitated Monroe, done on KC Jones at Inkaholics Anonymous. I should mention that Brian will be one of many brilliant artists at the International Scarification Convention in London, England in May if you want to make an appointment, and below the scar are a few of Brian’s US tour dates — Perkasie, Des Moines, and Dallas — showing a collection of his implant work, many of which you’ve seen here in the past.
