..so why would you get magnetic implants without giving them a try right away?

nails

These magnetic implants were done by alienboy, who you may remember from one of his many modblog features or this interview.

On a side note: These magnetic implants were a fairly recent submission so I assume they are the newer generation of magnets that have not been known to have the same coating failure issues the initial batch did.

2009 BME Year End Awards

Friday, January 1st, 2010

Happy New Year!! Let’s start this off by giving away free stuff!

It must have been the year I turned 21 that each day started by passing more and more quickly. I remember being 12 thinking I”d never be 16, then 18, then 21 and now I’m 4 months away from being 30. It means another year of growing BME has come and gone. It seems like the 2008 Awards were posted just a few days ago but it’s been a year. A whole year. We’ve seen so many ups and downs. This year marks the largest contribution by one person over the course of a year, which is also the largest contribution by one person during a year in the history of BME. There are also a couple faces here from last year that we couldn’t kick off the leader boards if we tried. Perk900, I’m talking to you, let’s see you get first place next year!! With this being the last day of 2009, I figured I’d kick it off right and present the 2009 Year End Contributor Awards!

You’ll also note that if you check the leader boards you’ll see different people listed in the top ten for image contributions than are listed below. Our 2nd and 3rd place winner is actually the same person so they’ve been combined and Jen gets disqualified and doesn’t get to win a contributor staff shirt because she already gets one for being staff! That moves everybody up one or two spots and that’s how we’ve come up with the list below.

If you are on the list, you’ll be contacted by me personally. If you don’t hear from me, check your spam or please email me with your address and shirt size to shop@bmezine.com. We will be sending out a very special surprise to the top contributor in each section!

I’m throwing in some BME trivia for you all to enjoy as well:

WE’LL FIND A WAY

Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

HEY MODBLOGGERS, SORRY FOR THE EXTENDED ABSENCE—SUBSTANTIAL TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES COMBINED WITH SOME METAPHORICAL CROSSED WIRES GOT US INTO THIS MESS, AND THEN WE HAD SUCH A GOOD TIME READING ALL THE JOKES YOU GUYS WERE CRACKING IN THE COMMENTS THAT WE JUST WANTED TO LET THAT STEW SIMMER A LITTLE LONGER. ANYWAY, IN CELEBRATION OF INTERNATIONAL CAPS LOCK DAY, HERE IS A HANDSOME CUTTING OF A RHINOCEROS—AN ANIMAL FAMOUSLY UNABLE TO PRESS DOWN THE SHIFT KEY WITH ITS MIGHTY STUMPY TOES AND THUS JUST KEEPS CAPS LOCK CRUISING AT ALL TIMES—COURTESY OF OUR OLD FRIEND ANDERS, WHO IS ON MODBLOG SO OFTEN WE COULD PROBABLY ASK HIM TO CHIP IN SOME RENT. BUT WE WON’T. WE WILL SIMPLY SIT BACK AND WAIT FOR HIM TO SUBMIT MORE OF HIS ALMOST SINGULARLY CLEAN AND PRECISE SCARIFICATION WORK, WHICH IS SOMETHING ON WHICH WE CAN COUNT PRETTY REGULARLY, WHICH MAY BE EVEN BETTER THAN A RENT CHECK.

Lie in the Light

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

Oh, what’s this? Another excellent scarification piece by noted intergalactic traveler Anders at Flesh Impressions in Broadbeach, Australia (more), you say? Yes, that seems to be quite in character for him, indeed. Here we see his work on familiar muse James, explained by the artist himself as such:

It’s an old handmade key design from late 1800s-early 1900s—a single line cut with cross hatching to give the key a handcrafted old look. When healed, it will be a subtle and discreet scar on the hand.

If the result of their last collaboration is any indication of how nicely James heals this sort of work, we can’t wait to see this new piece a little way down the line.

Hold It True

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

Hey now, our old pal Anders has checked in from, we don’t know, somewhere amongst the spheres and galaxies, to show us this intense skin-removal piece he performed two months ago. Of course, scars are still apt to change beyond two months into healing, but sweet sassy molassy, this is shaping up beautifully. This is why, if you can help it, you always go to an alien for your various body modification needs, at least when you’re in Broadbeach, Gold Coast, Australia. Close-up shots, after the jump.

Naughty In My Sight

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Ahoy-hoy, ModBloggers! Let’s roll out today with this damn-near perfect hand grenade cutting by our favorite intergalactic scalpel-wielding space creature, Anders “Alienboy” Allinger at Flesh Impressions in Broadbeach, Gold Coast, Australia. Is the wearer a soldier, perhaps? An anarchist, maybe? Or, more sinister than anything, a Green Day fan?

And holy holy, it’s Friday, folks. Feel free to bottle up and explode.

Tattoo Hollywood, BME’s first tattoo convention, is coming to Los Angeles from August 21-23, featuring contests, prizes and some of the best artists from around the world! Click here for more information.

I Like Griping

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

The very talented intergalactic traveler Anders the Piercing Guy checks in with these recent (and rare) vertical lowbrets, done with 1-1/8″ straight barbells. These are the first such piercings Anders has done since 2005, he says, but one won’t find oneself in much better hands than his. Best of luck with the healing process, fella.

A couple more angles, after the jump.

Rather Be Ashes Than Dust

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

And here we have an interstellar entry from Anders, who carved these godless occult symbols into an impressionable youth’s fingertips. At least Jupiter and Neptune will be most pleased.

Swallow Cutting - UPDATE

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

As promised yesterday, here’s a two-week-old healing shot of these swallow cuttings by Anders at Flesh Impressions in Broadbeach, Gold Coast, Australia. There’s still plenty of time to see how these progress, so hopefully Anders keeps us in the loop!

Close-ups of each cutting, after the jump.

Be Aggressive

Monday, April 6th, 2009

Anders, who’s been featured on ModBlog several million times, checks in with these very nicely executed swallow scarifications. I say it often, but watching the vast, constant improvements in scarification is one of the great joys of being so immersed in this community. I think many of us were probably too young to witness the same sort of growth in the tattoo community, but scarification seems like the next frontier in a lot of ways.

A few more procedural shots, after the jump.
