ModBlog News of the Week: March 25th, 2011

By Rob • Mar 25th, 2011 • Category: ModBlog

Well, it’s Friday Friday Friday and I’ve got my bowl of cereal all ready for today’s news post.  It’s a pretty light week for news but there are a few stories to get you through the afternoon/evening.

To start things off is a story out of England that may possibly make you sick, and at the least make you want to strangle this mother of the year candidate.

LIKE other eight-year-old girls, Britney Campbell loves dancing to Lady GaGa, is fond of fashion and enjoys putting on make-up.  Once every three months, Britney climbs on a beautician’s table and watches as mum Kerry prepares needles of Botox and fillers to be injected into her face.  Beautician Kerry, 34, from Birmingham, buys the substances online and injects them into her daughter’s forehead, lips and around her eyes.

The beauty-pageant obsessed single mum also takes her to have her body waxed, in a bizarre bid to stop her growing hair when she eventually hits puberty.

Britney says: “My friends think it’s cool I have all the treatments and they want to be like me. I check every night for wrinkles, when I see some I want more injections.  “They used to hurt, but now I don’t cry that much.  “I also want a boob and nose job soon, so that I can be a star.”

Kerry first injected Britney with Botox in May last year, as a present to celebrate her eighth birthday.  She says: “One day I had to keep her home from school as she had a slight headache, but apart from that she has had no reaction at all.  “She also has her virgin wax monthly, which gets rid of her fluffy leg hair and makes sure she wont develop pubic hair in the future.  “It will save her a fortune in waxing when she’s older.”

Little Britney says: “I feel like a supermodel and if I do ballet or go swimming I don’t have to worry about hairy legs. Although the pain makes me cry, I feel like a cool grown-up when it’s all over.” Kerry plans to get Britney’s eyebrows waxed this year.  She is also hoping to get them lightly tattooed to an arched shape and is also considering a light pink tattooed lip-liner.

When it comes to body modification, it’s an individual making the choice to alter their body in a way that they desire.  But at what age is it acceptable to start thinking about serious modifications?  There is no doubt that the mother is putting pressure on her child to achieve a desired physical transformation, but waxing the crotch of your 8 year old daughter just seems pretty excessive.  Not to mention injecting botulism into her face, and letting her think that wanting implants at her age is normal.  I try not to be too judgmental when it comes to non-celebrity stories, but this story really makes me want to slap the mom upside the head.

It’s Friday.  We’ve had the scar follow-up, and the news is coming up in a couple of hours.  What’s missing?  Oh that’s right, a BMEGirl post.  Today LadyFrankenstein is gracing us with her beauty.

The Friday Follow-up

By Rob • Mar 25th, 2011 • Category: ModBlog

Last week in the Follow-up I asked you to send in pictures of scars that are several years old, and boy did you deliver.  While seeing a scar after 6 months or a year can give a good indication as to what the scar will look like, a photo of a scar that is 3-4 years old can give you a definitive look at how a scar can heal up over time.  This week’s scar comes from IAM member EvanxBurkeWay back in 2007 Evan’s scar made it to ModBlog when it was still fresh from the 5 hour cutting by Wes from Electric Chair in Riverside, CA.

So, here it is, 4 years ago shortly after it was cut.

Keep reading to see how it looks today.

Science!

By Rob • Mar 25th, 2011 • Category: ModBlog

There are many different kinds of geeks in this world.  You have your film geeks, lit geeks, video game geeks, and many many more.  You also have your nerds.  Granted over the past few years those terms have become pretty interchangeable.  There is one kind of geek that doesn’t get a lot of attention, and that’s science geeks.  We’re not talking about scientists that are into star wars, but rather people who just love science because of how cool it can be (to them).  Now my science knowledge isn’t the greatest, so when I first saw this tattoo I had no idea what it was of.  Thankfully Wikipedia was kind enough to explain just what a phylogenetic tree is.  Elcerdo here got his noggin tattooed with a phylogenetic tree “for the first abstract publication on bioinformatics”.  I’m sure some of our science inclined readers can explain it a lot better than I can.

This science geek tattoo was done by Bobby T. from Black Lotus Studio in Findlay, OH.

A Canadian Down Under - A Final Mantra

By Rob • Mar 24th, 2011 • Category: ModBlog

In today’s final look at Quebec artist Efix Roy’s tour of Australia we have a special cutting that really strikes to the core of how much a scarification piece can impact a person both physically and spiritually.

That’s it for today’s look into the works of Quebec artist Efix Roy.  If you’re in Australia and missed him on his recent trip, he’ll be back down in November, so get in touch with him to set up an appointment.

A Canadian Down Under - The Invader

So coming off the incredible Triforce implant, we move into a completely different type of geek domain. While working out of Modify in Adelaide, Australia Efix took his knife to a big fan of Invader Zim.

Just one more post to go in today’s look at Efix’s Australian tour, but this is just a small sample of what can be found in his portfolio gallery on BME.

A Canadian Down Under - The Triforce

Alright, I’m going to be honest.  I totally geeked out really hard when I saw that Efix had put this in someone’s hand.  I had a chance to sit down with him right before he left for Australia and he showed me some of the implants he was putting in people while down there, but he must have hid this one from me.  In any case, as you can see, in addition to being an artist with a scalpel, he can take a piece of silicone and transform a hand into something epic.

This piece in particular isn’t found in his scarification portfolio, but can be found in the 3D-Art Implant Gallery.

Moving forward with the look at Efix Roy’s works from his recent Australian tour is a Tibetan skull cutting done on the ribs of some lucky Aussie.

This proud Quebec boy has a portfolio gallery full of exceptional cuttings just like the one above, so be sure to check it out.
