The Guess What Game (Round 1)

By Rob • Oct 26th, 2010 • Category: ModBlog

It’s Tuesday, and you know what that means!  Another edition of the Guess What Game!

Last week’s edition was a themed game, with the scrotum taking center stage.  This week, there isn’t a theme, which may or may not make things easier.  Of course, with this game, anything goes, so even if you think you know what something is, you could be completely wrong.  It really is amazing how many body parts can look similar when cropped just right.

For those new to the game, the rules are simple.  Throughout the day, you’ll be faced with three cropped images.  Your job is to figure out what body part/modification is being shown.  To make things a little easier, a clue will be given as to what is in the picture.  At the end of the day, the results will be revealed for all three pictures, and the winners will get bragging rights for the week.  Now, on to the game!

The first round of today’s game is a image where the position of the camera makes the shot entirely.  This particular piercing looks completely different from other angles, so keep that in mind when you make your guess.

ModBlog News of the Week: Oct 22nd, 2010

By Rob • Oct 22nd, 2010 • Category: ModBlog

It’s time again for the news of the week.  This week’s edition brings us a modified church, a charity event that became too popular, an actress willing to completely change herself for a role, and much more.

First off is what is probably the coolest implant related news ModBlog has seen in a long time.  Implant grade LED lights.

implantable LEDs

The LED arrays were developed by John Rogers from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and they can twist and stretch by as much as 75%. Coated in thin silicon rubber, they’re also waterproof and safe to implant under the skin.

Now the article goes on to describe them as “LED Tattoos”, but they seem more in line with the silicone implants currently being used by practitioners.  There aren’t too many details given about the power source, but if they’re able to safely embed a battery and/or an activation button into the array, I can think of several people who could put these to some creative uses.

These lights are just the tip of the iceberg of today’s news, so keep on reading to see what else has been going on around the world.

Frilly Pink Things

By Rob • Oct 22nd, 2010 • Category: ModBlog

It’s always great to see attractive modified girls on ModBlog.  What’s even better is seeing them while they’re raising money to support charity.

The following photos of IAM: Pink_Fairy and IAM: Nexizydrate were taken as part of a photoshoot to raise money for cancer research in the UK.  The photos were taken by MC Smith and Peter Whitney, following a play piercing session with Dan Hayes.

By Rob • Oct 22nd, 2010 • Category: ModBlog

Well, it’s back to Friday for this week’s follow-up post.  For those unfamiliar, every week ModBlog takes a look at some before and after pictures of scarification or branding pieces.

This week brings not only Brian Decker’s handiwork, but also the drop dead gorgeous Joli Suicide.

The first two images, the before pictures, were taken at the Philly Tattoo Convention this past March.

Help is out there

By Rob • Oct 21st, 2010 • Category: ModBlog

The following photo was submitted anonymously with the title “Sexual Assault Survivor”.  It’s a simple tattoo, but it also speaks volumes about the strength this person has to be able to share with the world that they are a survivor.

If you or someone you know is the victim of sexual assault, please get in touch with one of the many organizations out there.  There are people out there that are willing to help.  With yesterday being a day of action to stop bullying, it is good to remember that men, women, and children can all become victims of sexual assault.  Now I’m not making a direct comparison between the two, but in both cases, there are people out there that do care, and want to help.

For more information, please contact your local support organizations, or visit RAINN.org for a list of international support numbers.

It’s-a-me! Mario!

Sure when he first appeared in Donkey Kong he was just a simple construction worker, but as time went on, he became the lovable plumber we all know today.  From his humble upbringing in New York, this Italian Stallion of a plumber quickly rose to the top of his profession.  As his success grew, he was able to take his brother Luigi under his wing and open up Mario Bros Plumbing.  Then one day, a call came in that would change the lives of the brothers forever.  While fixing a major plumbing emergency at a low-rise in Brooklyn, the brothers were sucked into a giant pipe trapping them forever in the mushroom kingdom.  To many this would be a disaster, but these plucky heroes took up the mantle of champions, and became the protectors of the land.  For over 20 years Mario and Luigi have been saving the lives of the residents of the kingdom, as well as providing the rest of us back in the real world a source of inspiration.

Take this tattoo for example.  As the start of a sleeve dedicated to Mario, it shows just how important this immortal plumber has become to the world he was stolen from all those years ago.

The moment after

By Rob • Oct 21st, 2010 • Category: ModBlog

The act of suspension can be a significant moment in a person’s life.  Yet to an observer, suspending can appear to be only about the time in the air, when in reality, the entire process is important.  Having the hooks pierce your flesh is just the first of many steps that an individual goes through, that climaxes when they are in the air.  Following the time in the air is the denouement, the time after the person has started to descend and before the final bandages are applied.  It is a time of reflection, a chance to look back upon the experience while it is still fresh in the mind.

Taking a look at the following picture you can see in Colin’s posture that he’s taking in his experience.  To put the photo in context, the person in the photo, Colin, was suspended by Lucas and Kai from Pirate Piercing in Belgium.  The suspension took place during the last song of a performance by Amen Ra at a concert in Kortrijk, Belguim.

You can check out the photo of Colin in the air while the band in playing over in the suspension section of the ritual galleries.
