When mathematicians and modifications meet.

By Sean Philips • Jan 25th, 2010 • Category: ModBlog

This scarification piece on Svenna (who apparently  hates raccoons) is of Euler’s Identity, a mathematical equation known for it’s “mathematical beauty“. I read the wiki entry on it (twice) and I still have no clue what it means. In fact, I get a headache just thinking about it. Nonetheless, while I have minimal appreciation for mathematical beauty, I definitely can appreciate modified beauty and this scar is an excellent example of that.

This scar was done by modblog regular Brian Decker. He did the fill in with a hyfrecator as opposed to the more commonly used flesh removal technique. As you can see through the progressive pictures, the piece healed amazingly even. As an added bonus, according to Brian the hyfrecator method is also far quicker.

Brian is considering doing some work at the Philly Tattoo Convention, so if you are interested, hit him up on his IAM page or at purebodyarts.com.

Better late than never news…

By Jen • Jan 23rd, 2010 • Category: ModBlog

Another edition of better late than never news from around the globe…

This article was submitted by Jessie, is this the future of tattoos?

Gavin let me know about an Australian man that got a Eurail tattoo to realize his 80-year-old parents’ dream.  Also out of Australia, body piercings gone wrong are landing “scores” of Victorians in the hospital.

Brendan sent me this strange little blurb about a man with a fake Moko, in New Zealand.

Our good friend The Lizardman continues to get press about his biography.  Copies of the book, “Once More Through the Modified Looking Glass”, can be purchased through his website.

The Toronto Sun has a pictorial up titled “The World’s Most Intricate Tattoos“.  It’s always interesting to see what mainstream media chooses when they write this type of article.

In California, an assemblywoman is lobbying to regulate the tattoo industry.  This is always an interesting debate and certainly good arguments have been made for both pro and con.  In this particular case, assemblywoman Ma seems to have done her homework as the APP is currently backing her, according to the article that can be read here.

The United States Marine Corps has updated its policy on tattoos, you can read more about that here.  In tenuously related news, Forensic Magazine has an article up about an innovative tattoo matching technology that will help law enforcement identify suspects, criminals and victims through their tattoos.

Finally, Luis sent me a link to this video of a British television show called Distraction.  The video is 9 minutes, 47 seconds.  Contestants are asked questions while a “distraction” is happening and in this case, the contestants are getting pierced.  Thanks Luis!

That’s it for this week.  Enjoy your weekend!

Couples working together

By Sean Philips • Jan 22nd, 2010 • Category: ModBlog

Like Phil and his girlfriend Alie, they came to the agreement that if he ran every day she would draw every day. To see Alie’s commitment to  drawing every day check out her blog, I Hate To Draw. To see Phil’s commitment to running, you will need to stalk the street’s of Toronto one morning and look for Phil  yourself  (feel free to snap pictures and email them to me).

Another, and equally effective, way for a couple to work together is with a ball gag. One person speaks, the other submits. Makes perfect sense to me.

This tattoo by Alie sums it up best with the Latin phrase in the banner that translates to “Silence Implies Consent”.

I have seen lots of things…

By Sean Philips • Jan 22nd, 2010 • Category: ModBlog

…and I have done lots of things that would make a normal person curl up in the fetal position and require years of institutionalizing.

So in the rare moments when I come across something that makes me cringe a bit, I feel obliged to share it with you guys.

Some of Alicja’s  performance acts she does with The Psycho Cyborgs definitely makes me wince a bit. I don’t know what it is about the “fingering of an open wound” but for some reason that does it for me every time.

New Shirts back in Stock!

By Rachel • Jan 22nd, 2010 • Category: ModBlog

Check out four reprints added back to BMEshop Full runs in womens small to X-Large and mens small to 2XL.

http://shop.bmezine.com/product/virgin-unicorn/

Depending on the shirt/size, there could be as little as one print of that shirt. I’m working on getting some classic shirts redone like “In case of Emergency this bandage can be used as a shirt” by Jasonthe29th. As well as some totally new designs. Help support BME and buy some new shirts!

Are there any other things people would like to see available in the shop? More tshirts are always obvious but what about key chains? Baseball caps? toques? other accessories? Any ideas are appreciated!

Nothing says scratcher….

..like a crappy tattoo of a tattoo machine.

So if you are or ever plan on being a tattooer and you also plan on getting a tattoo of a tattoo machine, make damn sure it is a good one like this one by Randy Polillo of Dynasty Tattoo in Newfield, NJ.

For Rachel

By Sean Philips • Jan 21st, 2010 • Category: ModBlog

Poor Rachel has been working so diligently on the new BMEzine.com site she hasn’t had any spare moments to dig through pictures submitted from her beloved Brazilians.  So on her behalf, I present to you some more gorgeous pictures from our South American friends.

These pictures are from T. Angel’s performance “Narcissus”. This was his second Kavadi experience, if your fluent in Portugese you can read about his first one here.  Also, if your in Brazil and want to catch a live viewing of the Narcissus video it is playing next month at Body Pleasures.

All of the bling without the ring.

By Sean Philips • Jan 21st, 2010 • Category: ModBlog

When I first saw this picture of a microdermal in a nipple it brought me back to the days of nipple pocketing, which is a good thing because I was always fascinated by those. While the procedure for doing a micro in place of the pocketing is far less impressive, the end result is equally so.
