This Week in BME

By Jordan Ginsberg • Jul 31st, 2009 • Category: ModBlog

And rounding out our week, here, is the lovely, doe-eyed and excellently monikered McShady, which I’m pretty sure is the name of the Dublin detective school that Colin Farrell graduated from. You’ve worked hard all week, ModBloggers—you’ve earned your sweets.

(Piercings by Ryan Terrillion and Brian Decker.)

So it goes, friends. What happened this time around?

- Hearty mohawks!

- Alex, our Suscon correspondent, killed it all week.

- George Waters wrote the weirdest column about tattoos ever.

- We baited the commentariat just a little bit.

- We went black and white, briefly, for a good cause.

- There’s always room for cello.

We’ll be in and out over the weekend, but come next week, we’ll fire this sucker back up just like you’d expect. Until then, enjoy your humid weekend, stay safe and, of course, thank you for your continued support of BME.

Losing Your Lobes: An Interview With David Kitts

By Jordan Ginsberg • Jul 31st, 2009 • Category: ModBlog

A little while ago, we got an e-mail from a man named David Kitts. Having been around the body modification community for about a decade, he’d stretched his lobes to two inches, but recently underwent surgery to reconstruct them to their original state—the idea and process of which has left him conflicted at best. He felt like his story could be useful as a cautionary of sorts, and so we spoke to him. In our interview, he discusses why he went the surgery route, what the procedure itself entailed, the effects it’s had on him mentally and more—after the jump.

Great is the Hand

By Jordan Ginsberg • Jul 31st, 2009 • Category: ModBlog

I just assumed this was a Lionel Out Of Step piece when I first saw it, but no! Bested again! This chest tattoo, belonging to kipich, was in fact done by Montreal’s own Yann Black at Glamort. I love tattoos that are creative with their use of space, so this? This really does it for me, not to mention the sleeve and the scarification. High marks all around.

My Midnight Labors

By Jordan Ginsberg • Jul 31st, 2009 • Category: ModBlog

You begged. You pleaded. You dropped to your knees and prayed for it. (Or maybe you just mentioned it twice in the comments.) Whatever the case may be, your calls have been answered, and nobody is happier than we are to have Casual Fridays back! Today, as you can see, is a gentleman with a rather intense deep shaft piercing caught swingin’ in the breeze. And by “swingin’ in the breeze,” of course, I mean, “in possession of a deadly weapon.”

Naughty In My Sight

By Jordan Ginsberg • Jul 31st, 2009 • Category: ModBlog

Ahoy-hoy, ModBloggers! Let’s roll out today with this damn-near perfect hand grenade cutting by our favorite intergalactic scalpel-wielding space creature, Anders “Alienboy” Allinger at Flesh Impressions in Broadbeach, Gold Coast, Australia. Is the wearer a soldier, perhaps? An anarchist, maybe? Or, more sinister than anything, a Green Day fan?

And holy holy, it’s Friday, folks. Feel free to bottle up and explode.

Chop It Down

By Jordan Ginsberg • Jul 30th, 2009 • Category: ModBlog

And finally, folks, let’s end our day with this handsome portrait of, hands down, one of the baddest m.-fuckers in rock and roll history. Have we seen rock star portraits before? Of course we have. But when we get such an exceptional piece honoring a man who treated his guitar like an extension of his genitals more than anyone else we can think of, well, that gets posted, friends.

Tomorrow, we’ve got an interesting interview with a community member who’s feeling conflicted over a procedure he’s recently undergone. Until then, machine gun. Night night.

Live From Oslo SusCon: The Tiny, Fat-Free, Late Update

By Jordan Ginsberg • Jul 30th, 2009 • Category: ModBlog

Alexander Trowell is a body piercer and student nurse from Southport, U.K. He’ll be filing reports for us from the Oslo SusCon. Keep checking ModBlog for updates!

This final update from Oslo has been a little longer in the making than planned due to (1) overambitious partying, (2) an airport snack that just wouldn’t quit and, of course, (3) the reintroduction to regular society can be a harsh mistress.

As a final recap from the SusCon itself, I did promise some photos, and here they are, in no particular order:

What’s that, ModBloggers? You want to see a picture of a stunning redheaded cellist named Samantha with one hell of a pretty floral three-quarter sleeve? As always, dears, we’re happy to oblige you. Oh? You’re wondering if we have a black and white photo of this lovely woman’s back tattoos? We do, indeed!

I Could Fix That

By Jordan Ginsberg • Jul 30th, 2009 • Category: ModBlog

And here we have the alleged “Pikku,” clearly disobeying doctors’ orders and making some silly face that will probably stick like this, but hey, at least we get to see—among many fine-lookin’ upper and lower lip piercings, of course—a nicely healed DIY tongue split, done over the course of a month and a half with nothing more than a piece of yarn. Somewhere in the distance, Richard Dean Anderson is standing on top of a mountain, staring blissfully into a glorious sunset, gently nodding his approval.

Goldfish Don’t Bounce

By Jordan Ginsberg • Jul 30th, 2009 • Category: ModBlog

Gahhh, sorry once again for the late start, you lovely people. Here is some sage advice for anyone reading: Don’t move. Ever. Wherever you are, right this second, just plant yourself in that spot for however many years it takes until you are gifted with the sweet release of death. It will be worth it. Ha, depressing! Let’s cheer up with some nice, relaxing koi—or, at least, this fine cutting of some nice, relaxing koi by the very talented Rata.
