    thanks for all the comments! :) i went through the splitting process a few times, the 1st time was done via binding (late 2006, for a whole month or so), the 2nd time was done via binding for a week (earlier this year, with the hole stretched to 5mm), then a friend helped me by cutting through what was left of my tongue, and the remaining re-splits were done with a scalpel myself. there has been no problems with regrowth.
