I knew a woman

By Shannon • Mar 4th, 2007 • Category: ModBlog

This nice portrait of Kleptesvirgo was taken by Kelly MacDonald (her Ani DiFranco - slash - Theodore Roethke inspired chestpiece is by Seth Wood at Daredevil in NYC). Oh, and by the way — happy birthday!

Let seed be grass, and grass turn into hay:
I’m martyr to a motion not my own;
What’s freedom for? To know eternity.
I swear she cast a shadow white as stone.
But who would count eternity in days?
These old bones live to learn her wanton ways:
(I measure time by how a body sways).

  28. that chestpiece is just lovely. and she is, too…

    but what i love most about the photo is her (perceived?) bashfullness - the camera looking down on her, her off-centered ness, the raised eyebrows, cute half-smile, wringing hands…anyway, nice work.

    Enjoy your birthday,lady! :)

  40. Hey, I was just bored and browsing the modblog and who should I see? I love the chest piece, and I love you. I miss you tons.

    Love,
    Travis

  41. The chest piece is from Roethke’s poem “The Waking” and says “I feel my fate in what I cannot fear” - it is not from his poem “I Knew a Woman” as the title and the excerpt under the picture would suggest.
